Project Description:
At the request of the Vice-Provost, AIS, along with Virtual University
Design and Technology, is leading a project to create a centralized, yet
federated system for departmental use in capturing enrollments for online,
conference, and in-person non-credit course offerings. This system will be separate from our
Student Information System (SIS).
While use of the system will not be required, it is hoped that having
a user-friendly option available will encourage departments to expand
non-credit offerings and also use more central, secured facilities for
capturing payment information.
In June 2006, we signed a contract with Jenzabar to implement the next release
of their “Non-Traditional Student System” (NTS). The Jenzabar engine is written in Java in a manner that anticipates
and allows for easy customization and maintenance. Project Status:
The 1st release of the system went live in early September. Our pilot, Health4U, has been using the admin module to create offerings and register participants in those offerings. The 2nd release is primarily the ecommerce site for searching, browsing, registering and paying for non-credit offerings. Testing has been completed. The move to production has been slow. We have been working through 1st time issues with this deployment. Most of the site become operational on April 7th while one last issue has continued to be worked on. Our beta program is currently working to get their programs set up as they would like them before beginning to use the online registration site. The 3rd release is will include an integration with the D6501 system for content-level security, and integration with Angel, and a few other misc. features. This functionality will enable us to roll the system out to multiple pilot programs. The project team had reviewed the schedule, specifications, and priorities. Our target is to be up and running by mid June so that we can start taking registrations for the fall offerings by July 1st.
