AIS Projects and Priorities - Glossary

AIS Internal (Functional Group)
Project relates to AIS functions, and may represent procedural service improvements for AIS customers, or functions to support productivity and effectiveness of AIS staff.

Cross-Unit (Functional Group)
Project relates to multiple other functional groups.

 Development (Functional Group)
Project relates to development and alumni support activities of the University.

 Financial (Functional Group)
Project relates to financial and related business functions of the University, such as accounting, budgeting, purchasing, etc.
 Functional Group
Main category of University business or academic support.  Relates to planning/prioritization groups, and loosely correlates with AIS application team structure.

 Human Resource (Functional Group)
Project relates to academic and support employee-related functions, such as hiring, personnel records, payroll, benefits, etc., for groups such as faculty, staff, student employees, graduate assistants, retirees.

Infrastructure (Functional Group)
Project relates to hardware or software infrastructure used to support multiple applications or areas.

 Reason
On top cross-university priority projects page, the reason column indicates the reason each project is considered a top priority.
  Regulatory Compliance
Project includes work which is required for the University to become or remain in compliance with applicable state, federal or other regulations.
 Required Infrastructure
Project's main focus is to maintain infrastructure required for support of essential university business functions.  An example of this type of project is one which keeps essential infrastructure software or hardware at release levels required for vendor support, or maintains required data storage capacity or processing speed.

 Smaller-duration
Projects expected to require less than approximately six person-months of effort are typically considered small duration.
 Software Currency
Project's main focus is installation of current release levels of purchased application software in order to maintain vendor support and obtain functional improvements.
 Student (Functional Group)
Project relates to academic administration, support of student-serving University business functions, or direct student support.

 University Priority
Project supports strategic initiatives of the University, or has otherwise been designated a high priority by the University adminstration.
