AIS has implemented a Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory infrastructure that any unit on campus may take advantage of. By joining this campus-wide Active Directory tree, units can more easily collaborate with others by securely sharing resources with other Active Directory users. The upgrade to Windows 2000 and Active Directory requires considerable planning and additional administrative labor and hardware costs. AIS helps units by providing the Active Directory root structure, thus relieving departments from the requirement of providing their own DNS servers. AIS works closely with clients to develop a clear upgrade path and ensure a smooth migration. The on-going administration of these child domains can be carried out entirely by local IT staff or in coordination with AIS, as needs warrant. Collaboration within the Active Directory tree is also enhanced by a single Microsoft Exchange organization. Clients who choose to deploy Microsoft Exchange e-mail server in this environment will be better able to coordinate calendars and share resources. Questions about the services available should be directed to the AIS Help and Support Center at 353-4420 extension 311. |
