3270 Connection to AIS Mainframe

To connect to the AIS IBM mainframe via 3270, you need to have 3270-terminal emulation software that supports the use of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) installed on your PC. One popular 3270 emulator is Hummingbird Host Explorer. The basic function of Host Explorer is to give you "TN3270" programs for connecting to other computers. You will use the "TN3270" functionality for connecting to the AIS IBM mainframe.

The software is site-licensed to MSU, so if you are an MSU-authorized network user you may use it legally without charge. The MSU site-license also allows you to use the software at home. Because it is site-licensed, it is on a secured server at Academic Computing and Network Services (ACNS) where you must identify yourself to obtain it. Hummingbird software is available at the web site http://www.msu.edu/user/acnslic/hostexplorer/.

For Mac users, please contact the AIS Help & Support Center at 352-4420 x 311 or e-mail us at ais311@msu.edu for a beta version of the Brown University TN3270 software for the Mac.
