Description

AIS webDoc is a software application (java servlet) that allows MSU web applications to retrieve and display personal user documents (like W2s) that are indexed by PID or SSN in Document Viewer.

Benefits

bulletThe work webDoc does as a liaison between applications and systems is seamless for the end user.
bulletUsing webDoc significantly reduces the workload for the web application Developer compared to alternative means of report reproduction programming.
bulletThere is greater flexibility for use with many different kinds of web applications, as it uses an application-neutral syntax.
bullet  Reports can be viewed via the web without having to be printed.
bulletUsing supported web browsers, reports will be displayed with an excellent likeness to the original printed version of the reports.
bulletThere is no wait for printed reports to be delivered to your office.
bulletThere is no more searching for a paper report.
bulletIf needed, select pages or entire reports can be printed from the web to a printer in your own office.
bulletWeb viewing is expected to reduce the amount of actual printing of reports, which supports the University’s direction toward reducing paper.

Availability

The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except when short maintenance outages are needed, which will be announced prior to the outage.  Anyone with an MSU NetID and security rights can access webDoc from any computer that has supported web browsers.  However, there are several prerequisites and requirements for use that must also be addressed.  The actual webDoc web location is http://webdoc.ais.msu.edu/.

Prerequisites

Your application must first be defined as a Sentinel application (for authentication) within the D6501 security system (for authorization).  Your application must be coded to support SSO (which itself requires Sentinel).  Your report must be defined in Document Viewer.  Additionally, a basic understanding of Document Viewer storage and a detailed understanding of AIS security are required.
